Dr. Greg Hooper hails from Saint John, New Brunswick, where his parents still live. In his high school days, he was a nationally ranked middle distance runner, as well as Provincially competitive tennis and volleyball player. As High School Grad Class executive, He then moved with academic scholarships to Dalhousie University in Halifax, Nova Scotia where he attained both his accelerated Bachelor of Science (1985), and subsequent Doctor of Dental Surgery (1989).
As a young military officer, Captain Hooper provided dental service to members of the Canadian Forces in Ottawa for 5 years at CFB Uplands, National Defence Headquarters, and finished his military career as Dental Detachment Commander at CFB Rockcliffe. His most notable patients were the former Canadian Chief of Defence and Canadian embassy ambassador, and a former Prime Minister’s wife.
Married since 1989, Greg and his wife Karen (of Toronto) relocated to Pelham in 1995 to join with and help create McLeod Dental Care. They have 2 boys – Nathan (University of Guelph), and Scott (Eden High School) . Greg was a co-founder of Paddling Home, a recreational level Christian canoeing group that made annual treks into Ontario’s near north. He is a long time attender of Bethany Community Church in St Catharines. He has 2 brothers, the older a Chiropractor in Meaford Ont, and the younger a military helicopter pilot in Alberta.
Community interests have spanned coaching various youth sporting teams, past Beaver’s leader, and now regular participant in various charitable bicycle rides and golf tournaments. He is a current sponsor of The Lego DaVinci’s, a provincial and internationally competitive Lego Robotics Team.
Outside passions involve music, yoga, photography, golf, cycling, darts, ping pong and billiards. While able to comfortably provide high end cosmetic makeovers and full mouth rehabilitations, Greg would describe the majority of his treatment as ‘honest, conservative, down home basic dentistry’ that he expects will last a long time. He has a special interest in orthodontics, root canals and restorative care where he uses a high power surgical operating microscope to see the previously ‘un-see-able ‘ and deliver exceptional care. His guiding principle for all treatment decisions is : “ If this was my mom, what treatment would I suggest ?”. You can’t go wrong with that. He is the Hawkeye Pearce (MASH) of dentistry…gifted, compassionate, and professional but relaxed and not too serious….somewhat of a photographic memory but maybe a little disorganized when remembering your name. He may even keep you entertained as he is known to sing or whistle while he works.
